I just realized we never opened a topic about this Zig Day.
The next one is Feb 7, I’ll be there too.

Would love to attend but from Krakow I only have flights to Memmingen. Not sure if I can get to Nuremberg easily from there.
Just booked a bus from Prague, I’ll see you there!
how many people attend those meetings on average?
I’m driving from Landau via the A6. If anyone west of Nuremberg needs a ride, you’re welcome to join me.
For some outside the EU, getting to Nuremberg can be a big deal .. would be very cool if next year’s meetup could adjust the dates by a few days to overlap with the Nuremberg Toy Fair - biggest toy and hobby fair in the world - so would have double the geek out value for a trip.
Zig Days tend to run once every 1-2months usually, it’s not a conference :^)
The same day there’s going to be a Zig Day in Bristol UK and 3 weeks later there will be one in Milan Italy. Just to mention a couple.
Go to https://zig.day to see if you have a Zig Day that you can join.
An overlapping fair drives up the prices of hotels, probably erasing a significant part of the “double the geek out value for the trip”.
I stayed in a hotel before the November Nürnberg meetup, as I have a 4-5 hour drive from northern Germany (and did not want to get up at 4 am to get there in time, and be tired from driving). But I did get a hotel in Erlangen (20 minutes away), as the Nurnberg hotels doubled their prices that Friday (compared to the day before). Reason: the Nürnberg Chirstmas market started that day, which attracts lots of non-locals.
Double pricing overnight - oh wow, that’s pretty significant. Fair enough - best avoid that.
Yeah, looking at the map - to attend any Zig meetup for me means a 4 hour drive to get to the nearest airport, followed by a trip to the other side of the world (anything from 16 - 32 hours in the air), regardless of where its at … something Id like to do a few times for sure, but its never going to be a simple trip down the road for me.
No problems
So, my bus is scheduled to arrive in Nürnberg on Friday at around 15:15. I plan to just quickly check in at the hotel and then I would like to have a walk around the city, just to look around a little as it’s going to be my first time there. Probably grab something to eat somewhere as well.
Just putting this out there if anyone wants to join and have a little meet up before the actual meet up? ![]()
If all zig day events are far from where you live, then it might make sense to consider becoming an organizer yourself, that way you and all the people in your area could attend there instead. Of course you don’t have to, just something to think about.
Unfortunately I’ll be far from Nuremberg on friday but if you use Signal and DM me your username I can add you to the Signal group of Zig Day Nuremberg where you might find somebody to hang out with.
