After some update of vscode, I suddenly see a “copilot” appearing.
I only installed the zig language that’s it.
Is the copilot actually doing something good for Zig?
It would be nice, because the (free) chat gpt is almost useless: it invents its own non existing functions, produces lots of nonsense.
FWIW if you want to get rid of that pesky icon in the titlebar, right-click anywhere in the titlebar and uncheck ‘Copilot Controls’:
I do use the Copilot Chat panel from time to time as a Stackoverflow replacement, but never for code completion (regardless of language) because the code completion usually wants to nudge me in a different direction than I actually want. The regular Intellisense / Language Server code completion is much more useful.
For the things where AI would be actually useful, e.g. fuzzy requests like “Please check this entire project and report any cases where the comments don’t agree with the commented code” - Copilot is entirely useless.
Ok thanks. copilot is mostly useless. Good to know. Maybe still I will do a little experiment.
How I deeply wish for a dedicated Zig editor. Get rid of all the generic stuff.
Off topic: Quite funny video:
It reminds me of my catastrophes with chat gpt.
Here is more scientific content regarding chess and LLMs: https://blog.mathieuacher.com/GPTsChessEloRatingLegalMoves/.
Specific versions obtain very low illegal move rates which is impressive for a game with a branching factor of ~30. And final elo is quite high!
Here is a French speaking video about these experiments.
Then again, nanochess doesn’t make any illegal moves at all.
This is nanochess btw:
