Ruhr.zig - anyone interested in meeting in Bochum, DE?

I’m working in Bochum and while I can’t use Zig at work, I could probably provide a suitable location for a Zig.day-like meeting.

Depending on the visitors, I’m open to German and English for communicating.

I would just like to know how many of you would be interested at all, before I talk to my boss…

While Nürnberg would be just around the corner, if we were in the US, Canada, or India, taking Germany as a measure, it’s far, far away…

I am also working in Bochum (but most of the time in HO, quite some distance away). I would attend a zig.day like meeting.

Hey, thanks for the suggestion. I was always hopng for such an event in the West of Germany, since, as you said, related to inner-German distances Nuremberg is too far away.

I live in the rhineland area and, thus, would be very interested joining such a meeting and get to know other Zig users.

I also live in the Rheinland area, but work in Bochum. Such a small world.

Ah cool. The world is a village (not sure if thats also a valid saying in English).

What would be the min. number to make the hustle organizing something worth it?

I can’t promise anything yet, but I’m planning to organize Zig Day Cologne.

Oh even better than Bochum in relation to my area (no disrespect to the Pott)

In general, I would like to support organizing such a meeting within my means. If anyone is interested to get in contact about it, or maybe about other Zig stuff related to Western Germany (whatever that might be), we maybe could open a Matrix/XMPP space or something similar

I’m interested.

If you all have a Matrix account, I could open a space and send you the link via PM

Edit: I just created a Matrix space named “Zig.NRW”. If you have an account, just join. If nobody joined the space in a few days, I’ll remove it

@hvbargen Maybe change the topic title to “NRW.zig” or something. That will likely address more people.

I don’t think so. People from DE and Benelux will understand anyway, and I don’t really expect people from >= 200 km radius to turn up…

So far it’s just 4 people.

I think it makes sense to meet nevertheless, just to get to know each other. Maybe not a whole day then, idk, on a Saturday or Sunday.

I could probably organize a meeting room, with internet access, beamer / huge TV, free parking, and fast food nearby.

But ofc I’d also like to attend a meeting in Cologne.

Oh nice to see the initiative here. I haven’t been posting here a lot but using zig for personal projects for almost 3 years now. I live close to Heidelberg, so more to the south but would love to connect with fellow ziglings in person and getting more involved in the community. I could imagine coming to an event up north occasionally if time/family allows

Great. If you have a Matrix account maybe join the room. Chatting there is more easy than in a forum

I might travel to the Ruhr area (not that different from doing BS → Nürnberg ), but don’t have a Matrix account to follow the discussion there.
So please announce things here as well and/or when you add yourself to

We will post here too if we have something concrete. Not sure if it will be that big to become an official zig day, though.

Ps. If you might have xmpp/irc there are bridges for communicating with Matrix
