Totally agreed! I feel very strongly about this as well. My software specifically is designed in service of the user. Usually the user is me and I take great lengths to create things that I personally use on a daily basis. I also feel very strongly that the industry has lost its way. Projects are created for maximum revenue extraction. Shortcuts taken at every junction. It’s very common now to just put the thing out there and get as much money as you can before its even 30% of the way done. I hate telemetry, I hate tracking, Hate subscriptions, I hate having my own privacy and autonomy violated at every turn. That’s been the force driving everything I’m working on right now.
Nice, short and sweet. If I were to make my own list, it would probably look pretty similar. I would probably also add “respectful of the user”.
