Goodbye zig.news

I’ve deleted zig.news, the plan is to re-create it as a link aggregator in the future.

In the meantime if anybody here had anything published on it that they would like to publish elsewhere (ideally a personal blog, wink wink), there’s a dump of all articles here: GitHub - kristoff-it/old-zig-news-dump: Public articles posted to the first iteration of zig.news

Written in zig, right?

Yes and everything else like ziggit should also be written in Zig. Like https://forum.nim-lang.org/
Even the discord chat should be written in Zig and self-hosted with sqlite backups. lol.

Since Zig is a niche community, the scale shouldn’t be an issue for the first year or so, plus Zig servers already handle crazy amount of scale on a low-end hardware.

I think with basic Deepseek or GLM this is possible within a month or so. If you want to collaborate, let me know. Any inspiration would be helpful.

Specially with the idea of an all-in-one forum (SEO) + chat.

I’m thinking of deploying lobsters on zig.news. Creating a site like that from scratch is obviously doable but at the same time lobsters really checks all the feature boxes that I care about.

I would rather spend my effort into writing a Discord from scratch (which is something I’ve already started working on).

I think I’ll try to deploy it today on stream.

If anyone want’s to volunteer to build and maintain the frontend, I’d be happy to volunteer to build the backend for a lobsters clone written in zig.

I can help with the front-end. I want to but do it in 100% Zig even for the front-end (wasm). Since we already have the two platforms (Discourse and Discord) and they are running at the moment. There is no hurry.

We can enjoy the process.

Lol, I love the idea of using zig-wasm for the frontend! That’s a fantastic idea!
