I realize I also came off as a bit offended, but my only goal was to make sure that viewpoint was recognized. Thanks for responding. We’re all good.

I also agree there is a spectrum of where each person draws the line.

I agree with practically everything you stated, but I wanted to hone in on what I think could be a possible caveat:

How does this solve the actual problem of:

I am all for the introduction of something for us to make the distinction, but does this not just move the interpretation away from a formal standard of the forum to just the personal opinion of the user making the post, where each person has their own definition?

Furthermore, the most egregious offenders most often are first-time users, who are the least likely to adopt such conventions of tagging their post appropriately. So while this would be a good solution in theory, I have serious doubt how well it will work in practice. My assumption is that every single debut post in the Showcase category is going to be lacking a tag, and immediately devolve into a discussion of users interrogating them on their use of an LLM and to add a tag if so.

My web-programming experience is nearly non-existent, so forgive me if this is a silly suggestion or outside the scope of the discussion, but is there a way for a dialog to pop up when submitting a post to ask the user for an LLM disclosure and/or reminder to add the tag where applicable?

An actual description of how and for what an LLM was used, if at all, seems to convey more information to other users on if they wish to engage with the post. If I am a puritan and used the llm tag because I asked ChatGPT advice one time, I wouldn’t want my post being filtered by people who believe this tag means “vibe-coded” simply because that is how they personally define it.

My point being, an actual standard, even if flawed or incomplete, is better than none at all and leaving it up to interpretation of each person, else we are eternally going to be quibbling over where the head ends and the neck begins. We are never going to all be in agreement on this matter, but I would prefer if the moderation team just made an executive decision on what was what. Whether I agree with it or not, at least we can all be on the same page of what this tag would mean.

Thanks for saying that. I’m going to quote @edwardloveall because his response to you perfectly captures what I want to say too: “I realize I also came off as a bit offended, but my only goal was to make sure that viewpoint was recognized. Thanks for responding. We’re all good.”

Hey all! Thank you for your feedback on this as it has really helped us to see how mature and friendly our community is. I know this can be a hot-button issue, and i’m glad it can be discussed so well.

That being said, we are going to close discussion here and take what ya’ll have written to discuss as a moderating team.

Thanks!
