# How to force maker to be built in Debug? \[for zig devs\]

It is a question directed to zig developers itself so Idk… I’ve seen here them a lot and issue tracker redirects me here for questions so Idk if it should be here but it is here now…

I am trying to change `build.zig` and each change triggers Maker to be rebuilt with llvm 😢 which takes several minutes every time (even just to see I placed `,` instead of `;`). Is there a way to force Maker build it as Debug?

Set the envvar `ZIG_DEBUG_CMD=1` (or `ZIG_DEBUG_MAKER=1` before [#36393](https://codeberg.org/ziglang/zig/pulls/36393)).
